Okay, so at camp we usually do a hike as part of what they have to do for certification. However, I'm sure if your girls are into the outdoors and doing stuff like hiking you could do it for a different activity. I was in charge of the hike this year along with the lovely Amanda and our camp theme was I Am Mormon. (sorry if I put this in the wrong order), I Live It, I Love It, I Know It. Anyways, so we found a hike near camp that led up to a waterfall. It was a little challenging, but I think it was awesome for our girls to know that they were able to do it. Anyways, so prior to them going up we went up and hung things for them to find along the way. These were letters from each of the leaders telling their I Am Mormon story, like those found on Mormon.org. Attached to the letters were candies and a scripture that talked about sticking to your face and figuring out how you know it, or love it, or live it. When we arrived at the waterfall, those leaders that were there read their letters, and the young women read the others. We talked about how although like the hike life can be challenging, and you may fall sometimes (our girls fell a few times on some of the steep and slippery parts...it didn't help that it had been raining...)continuing....you may fall sometimes, but you need to keep getting up and moving forward and choosing the right. We challenged them to think about whether or not they know why they are Mormon, if they love it, and if they weren't already living it to choose to do so. It started to rain even more at this point and so we weren't able to give them some journal time, and scripture time, but that was the plan. Maybe next year.
